No pressure calls. No spam. Just straight answers from a fellow shipmate.
Official U.S. Navy Reserve Recruiting | NRRS Pearl Harbor, Hawaii | Serving Hawaii’s Military Community
You’re Getting Out.
But Are You Walking Away With Everything You’ve Earned?
Most sailors focus on what life looks like after the Navy. Few stop to ask what quietly disappears the moment separation becomes official — and whether any of it was worth keeping.
No pressure. No obligation. Just a straight conversation — shipmate to shipmate.

Let’s Be Honest With Each Other
If You’re Reading This, You’re Probably Not Sold on Anything Yet.
Maybe you’re done with the military grind and you’ve heard every version of the Reserve pitch. Maybe a recruiter already called you and you tuned out. Maybe you’re just trying to figure out your next move without someone pressuring you into a decision.
That’s fair. And honestly? That’s exactly who this page is for.
This isn’t a sales page. It’s information — the kind a good shipmate would give you. Straight, honest, no agenda. If the Reserve makes sense for your life, you’ll see it clearly by the end of this page. If it doesn’t, I’ll tell you that too.
Not your situation? You might be looking for the 4-2-2 obligated page or the veterans page.
Benefits
What You’ve Already Earned
These Benefits Exist. The Question Is Whether You Keep Them.
Separation doesn’t erase what you’ve built — but it can make a lot of it disappear overnight. Here’s what stays with you when you join the Reserve, and what walks out the door without it.
TRICARE Reserve Select
Healthcare for you and your family at a fraction of civilian costs. Without Reserve status, you lose access the day you separate.
Retirement Points
Every drill weekend adds points toward your military retirement. Walk away now and those points stop building permanently.
Security Clearance
Your clearance stays active while you’re drilling. Once you separate without affiliation, the clock starts ticking toward expiration.
Drill Pay
Extra income one weekend a month at your current paygrade and years of service. It’s not a fortune — but it’s money you’ve already earned the right to collect.
Still skeptical? Good. Keep scrolling — the straight talk is below.

Questions You’re Probably Already Asking
Get straightforward answers to your most pressing concerns about the Navy Reserve.
Is this actually just one weekend a month?

Yes. One weekend a month and two weeks a year for annual training. The rest of the month is yours. You build your civilian career, spend time with your family, and live your life. The Reserve is an addition to your civilian life, not a replacement for it.
Can I get deployed?

Mobilization is possible but not guaranteed. It depends on your rate, your unit, and the current operational needs. I can show you exactly what the mobilization picture looks like for your specific situation.
What if I already have a civilian job lined up?

Good — the Reserve is designed to work alongside your civilian career, not compete with it. USERRA protects your job when you drill. Most employers see Reserve service as a positive.
How much is drill pay actually?

It depends on your paygrade and years of service. I can run your exact numbers — I won’t quote you a figure I haven’t verified.
What about my family? My spouse isn’t on board.

That’s important and I hear it a lot. I’m happy to talk to both of you together — not a pitch, just straight answers to their specific concerns.
What if I book the call and decide it’s not for me?

Then it’s not for you and I’ll tell you that. I’ve told sailors the Reserve wasn’t the right move for their situation. The call is free, it’s 15 minutes, and you’ll walk away knowing more than you did before. That’s the only promise I make.
